This was fairly difficult for me, but I enjoyed because it really made me think. At first, I wasn't happy with it, but seeing it up on the wall today made me feel better about it.

CAM Raleigh: Ornament and Pattern

This article was very informative, it gave me more ideas for the smalls works, which I really needed. She talks about past generations and traditions, along with background history of patterns and ornaments. She goes into detail about how the simplest patterns on paper can become a building or some sort of structure. I feel the pictures in the article were a great help as well. letting you see the thought process of some of the patterns and ornaments. Like the delftware pattern in the bread or the logotype for the Brooklyn Museum, I thought those were great.      I think this article is very helpful for our current small works and in-depth project. It gave me an understanding that even if I feel I have nothing, I still can build something from it, just like free play of the imagination.

"Ornament" and the Sources of Design in the Decorative Arts."

Although this was a difficult read, it was a good one. Ivins talks about ornaments and craftsmen. He brings it to light how the craftsmanship and skill is just as important as to music and composers. he compares both amazingly, my favorite part when he says "The sounds produced by the performer at the piano correspond to the articles produced by the craftsman, while the musical score, the creation of which demands truest invention and greatest constructive imagination, passes from hand to hand in printed or written form just as the engraved and drawn designs for craftsmen did in former years prior to the invention of photographic process reproduction." I feel it's true in every sense, cause I'm sure when a composer takes him time with a musical piece and really give it his or her all he wants it played to the very best of it ability that he's imagined it.      I feel like he wants future makers and craftsman to know their craf...

Outside Visits: ICA Visit

Image
The museum was a good experience, although I didn't know what to expect I enjoyed the work of the artist that were shown. I think the work of Renaud Jerez was a little boring to me. It was cool to see the materials he used for them, but they didn't really excite me or call my attention. I really liked the work of Ida Applebroog some of her drawings had little scripture/text that made them go along with each other and more understanding. Some of Susan Te Kahurangi King work was really interesting cause her work was drawn on papers that had text on them but didn't have anything to with the drawing so it almost made it look like a really good doodle.I also liked how she had Donald duck and bugs bunny in some of the works, I thought that was kind of unique. All in all the visit to ICA was a great one, it opened my eyes to things I haven't seen yet.
